Turnera Ulmifolia (“Damiana”)-20 seeds

We have been growing this plant for several years after receiving these seeds as “damiana”. Since then, we have also noticed some other vendors selling these as Turnera Diffusa or damiana. However, a little research has shown that this plant appears more similar to turnera ulmifolia. Yet, the flower does still differ minimally from many depictions of turnera ulmifolia, being lighter in color with more stamens. Turnera ulmifolia is also listed as hardy to zones 9b, whereas this plant has proven to survived winters in zones 7. We have not located a single vendor for true turnera difussa seeds, and only a few carry these. It seems that all the seeds have originated form the same source since the pictures match. The two plants are noticeably different in appearance, especially the leaves. We have had some reports that, although it lacks the same scent, this plant may suffice herbally as a substitute for turnera diffusa. This seems like the only possible reason for the misidentification. Among local groups, related plants, especially those with similar herbal uses, are commonly called by the same common name. But regardless of that, we are aiming to offer these seeds for what they are to anyone who is interested in growing this plant. We will refer to them as “damiana” or turnera ulmifolia for lack of better terms. But the photo depicts what these seeds actually will produce.

Growing Information: This plant is easy to grow and requires minimal care. Seeds should be sown about 1/8” deep in a well-draining fertile mix. Plants can be started directly outdoors in the ground or in large containers. Provide average watering. It can be grown in full sun but may do better with just a little bit of shade. If you see that the leaves are beginning to turn red, it means the plant is either getting too much sun or too little water. Once established, it is fairly drought-tolerant. The flowers of this plant seem to be enjoyed by bees that will help pollinate other plants in your garden.
